How To Care For Cast Iron Cookware
Your cast iron cookware will last for a very long time if you just
handle the pieces with the proper care. Non-seasoned or non-enamelled pans require more attention, both
when cooking and cleaning - you should never boil water in unseasoned pans, nor soak them in water for any
length of time. Neither should non-enamelled pans be washed in a dishwasher nor scrubbed with abrasive
implements.
Enamelled cast iron cookware, such as from
Le Creuset and Chasseur, is far easier to care for and maintain. Prior to first use, the
cookware should be washed in hot, soapy water, then rinsed and thoroughly dried. No further preparation is
required.
After use, the enamelled pans may be washed in a dishwasher or by
hand (but avoid using any harsh abrasive cleaning agents or metallic pads).
Always allow a pan to cool for a few minutes before washing it in
hot, soapy water and ensure that it's rinsed well and thoroughly dried before storage.
Do not use hand-held beaters or mixers in your cookware and avoid
cutting foods directly on any enamel surface.
